The Supreme Court is anything but supreme. The jokers that Bush and others have placed on this court would be better placed with Fox News. We shouldn't have to put up with this kind of "packing" for the next 20 to 30 years. Our country has been practically destroyed by these neo-conservatives. They have taken the best parts of our Constitution and have intentionally used them to build a country that is by the rich and for the rich.
FDR proposed packing the court because of trying to have social programs that would aid people who were not getting necessities (food and clothing) and were losing their belief in our system of government. The depression ended when WWII started and not because of FDR's programs. Those programs were being constricted by a Congress that had a belief more like "if you give a dollar, they'll just ask for two".
If this new Congress is as Democratic as I think it will be and if this economy is as bad as I think it will be we are going to need more than another invasion to put us back to work. This Supreme Court would shoot down social programs about as fast as it would take them to minimize a woman's right to make a decision on her own.
If anyone feels that courts shouldn't be packed because they have all been beyond politics let us not forget Dred Scott, or Plessy. The so called conservatives seem to have a greater impact when getting a nominee placed on our Supreme Court. So, I think it is only fair to pack the sonuvabitch if you have a chance and let the so called conservatives bitch about tradition. A tradition that favors their point of view.
