Safety in Numbers-the village

There is safety in the numbers. The bigger the number the harder it is to lurk in shadows and pounce on the weak and/or unsuspecting. When the facility is being used by many people crime plummets. I recall my visit to Manhattan in the late 90's with three young men (seniors in high school) who had won a national contest and were rewarded by a 4 day - 3 night trip to NYC. My wife and I with a full time escort/chaperon provided by the company sponsoring the trip helped these three young men enjoy the riches available to anyone in New York City. One of my students asked a guide about Times Square and safety and answer to the question was that the area had changed significantly in five years - that since people felt safer there more people visited and it became even safer (of course the number of police present made a difference as well).
